Jennifer Granholm was Barack Obama before Barack Obama was Barack Obama - former ME Senate Majority Leader Mike BishopThe best thing failed, in-over-his-head President Obama can do at this point is take advice from failed, in-over-her-head former Michigan Governor Granholm, who opined that our community organizer in chief ought to just forget about the war on terror altogether and, for what - the 13th time now?, pivot on jobs.Via BreitbartTV:
Former Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D-MI), appearing on "Meet The Press" suggests that the United States doesn't need to worry about a global war on terror, we need to worry about the global war on jobs. The death of bin Laden is the only thing anyone can point to as a net positive of the Obama Presidency almost 3 years in. Case in point: Bill O'Reilly Defends Obama From Romney In Interview: 'He Got Osama bin Laden'
(did the body snatchers get to O'Reilly?) Furthermore, Obama should read Granholm's personal take on how to create jobs, because she was so awesome at it here in Michigan: Column: 6 cost-efficient ways to create jobs
1 Give global companies, which have parked over $1 trillion in earnings offshore to avoid U.S. corporate taxes, incentives to "repatriate" those foreign earnings. Lower the corporate income tax on a one-time basis to 15%. Then — and this is the important part — direct the potential $150 billion in tax revenue from those repatriated earnings to job creation. Why would corporations move the money back here just to have it taxed? I say make the tax rate zero! More taxes will hurt the economy, not help it!
2 Put half of those proceeds toward a blockbuster "Jobs Race to the Top," modeled on the highly effective Education Race to the Top. The education "race" had states doing back-flips to compete for federal dollars. Let's do the same for job creation in emerging global sectors such as robotics, nanotechnology, clean energy, defense technology and advanced manufacturing.Uh um:
3 Invest the remaining proceeds toward capitalizing an infrastructure bank, broadly defined — construction for roads, bridges, technology, grid upgrades, schools.Echoes of the liberal media: Detroit Free Press: We need a Fannie, Freddie for roads or something
4 Lower the nation's corporate tax rate from 35% to 25%, and pay for it by streamlining the tax code and eliminating loopholes.Read: Increase taxes more elsewhere but pretend you're cutting it. No net effect overall and likely a net negative.
5 Modernize our unemployment and workforce training systems. In Germany, government helps employers pay for work during recessions, preventing layoffs and helping workers stay employed when orders are slow.More spending of money we don't have!
6 Adopt a federal clean energy standard to proclaim to clean energy businesses — which can locate anywhere — that a market exists here for their products. If the U.S. adopted a goal of acquiring 80% of our energy from "clean" sources by 2035, clean-tech businesses would flock here.I mean, hey - the "green jobs" in the 2009 stimulus boondoggle ended up costing only $4,851,904.09 per “green job.” What's keeping us from doing more of that?
A reminder of who this is: Granholm October 2009: "By next year, Michigan will have lost 1 million jobs, we need a change." Well Michigan got its change last November by giving Democrats a bloodbath not seen before in Michigan. An overwhelming Democrat House majority became an overwhelming GOP one, something unthinkable only a year ago. The Senate GOP majority is so large that the Democrat minority can literally meet in a Burger King booth. The Supreme Court got flipped to GOP control. And of course the governorship went to Rick Snyder and was an utter blowout of epic proportions. GOP control is the only positive legacy of Granholm, the failed governor. It will be the only positive legacy of Obama, the failed President.
UPDATE: Over at The Detroit Free Press this morning: Granholm says she's done with elected office. Read: she's damaged goods and she knows it. So she wants to be selected, not elected. She's been pining for an Obama appointment for years now...
UPDATE #2: From The Detroit News: Granholm: U.S. can learn lessons from Michigan's experience. Not electing incompetent boobs like Granholm at the state level, and Obama nationally, seems indeed a lesson worth learning.
